Cinemas hear me

Cinemas hear me: a poem about the deaf community’s need.

Cinemas hear me, loud and clear

Cinemas see me, hands that’s sign

A film with no subtitles

Is no film of mine

Some of us hear the mumbling

Some of us hear nothing at all

We’re sure the plots really great

But we’ve hit a wall

People say they hate subtitles

They find they get in the way

But when did their likes

Silence equal say

We want equality for all

For the deaf world, hearing and more

If we don’t get subs

Prejudice is at core

Accessibilities not there

The film: we cannot understand

But others voices are louder

Your eyes are closed to our signs

Please help us get more subtitled films into screenings.

Thank you.
