Welcome home!

Hello and welcome to this website. My name is Siobhan Kathy and as you may have guessed, I am partially deaf. My loss is mainly in middle pitch, I wear in the ear hearing aids, and I was diagnosed at nine years old.ย However, I am also partially awesome. I am a Harry Potter lover, book geek who loves to knit and listen to music. I love music (loud of course) and too many people get surprised by that. I also have a range of taste, from Eminem, to Pink, to a good bit of Pavarotti.

The point of this website is several things. To actually write down the challenges, perks, and experiences of being partially deaf, but also to normalise the idea of Young People being Partially Deaf.

This is where the idea of the website name came from. Yes I am part deaf and that can be a pain, but I am also part awesome, and that can be pretty epic.

I don’t mean awesome as in popular, a list of friends longer than my arm or some great talent that people love like singing (I’m pretty good at maths but who wants to watch you do that?). I’m awesome for other reasons. Because I’m deaf and proud. Because I’m happy with who I am and what my body is. Because I can see life and appreciate it. I think to be like that can be the secret to a good life. Appreciation and acceptance. They can also be the hardest things in life to achieve.

So once again welcome to Part deaf, part awesome! I hope you enjoy reading the blog posts and please feel free to leave some comments while your here!
